In 1984, Transfield was approached by consulting engineers Wargon Chapman Partners to study a solution to building a tunnel without intervention to the inhabited areas to the North and South of the bridge.
About This Portal
Transfield Historical Milestones: The First Fifty Years was launched in 2006 to celebrate the company's fiftieth anniversary. Written by historian, Dr. Gianfranco Cresciani the website detailed 19 milestones in Transfield's colourful and diverse history. Now, a decade later, Transfield's sixtieth anniversary is being marked with the launch of this updated version, Transfield Historical Milestones: The First Sixty Years. Augmenting Dr. Cresciani's work, this website introduces three new milestones, reflecting the company's recent activities. It also includes a host of recently-recorded video conversations between people significant to Transfield's history and an update of the existing milestones created by Dr. Cresciani.
The iconographic material illustrating Transfield's Historical Milestones has been mainly drawn from the Transfield Archive, which also contains films, documents and stills from other sources. This material was either purchased by or donated to Transfield, and the company is greatly indebted to the original copyright owners for their generosity and effort in documenting Transfield's history. As it was impossible to trace and to acknowledge them all, to them goes Transfield's unreserved thanks and apology.
