Community Involvement - Transfield Foundation

The Transfield Foundation has a history of support for the arts that began with the vision of Transfield’s Founder, Franco Belgiorno-Nettis to launch the Transfield Art Prize in 1961 and the Biennale of Sydney in 1973. Today the Foundation is committed to supporting organisations that provide employment and education opportunities. Success in these areas helps individuals to reach their potential, gain self-esteem and achieve positive economic outcomes.

The Foundation also has a long association with the internationally celebrated Australian Chamber Orchestra, a shining example of artistic excellence.

Biennale of Sydney

Initiated by Founding Governor, Franco Belgiorno-Nettis and supported by Founding Patrons, Transfield Holdings, the first Biennale of Sydney (BoS) was held in 1973 as part of the opening celebrations of the Sydney Opera House. Since then the BoS has become Australia’s major international contemporary arts festival, bringing artists from around the world to challenge Australian audiences.

Australian Chamber Orchestra

Transfield has been a proud sponsor of the Australian Chamber Orchestra since 1996.

The ACO was founded in 1975 and now has 10,000 subscribers across Australia. When travelling abroad, the Orchestra is a great ambassador for Australia, drawing international attention to Australian culture and receiving praise from some of the world’s toughest critics.

Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME)

AIME provides an out-of-school mentoring program for Indigenous secondary students who work with trained mentors selected from the mainstream university student population. Both mentors and mentees participate in development programs conducted in school based learning centres established as satellites from participating universities.

Indigenous university students can face hardships throughout their studies. This leads to poor academic engagement, higher dropout rates and lower self-confidence. CareerTrackers and the Transfield Foundation have established a partnership to develop a hardship account to support CareerTrackers students in times of short-term financial hardship.

The Clontarf Foundation

The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, self esteem, life skills and employment prospects of young Aboriginal men and by doing so, equip them to participate more meaningfully in society. Using the existing passion that Aboriginal boys have for football allows Clontarf to attract the boys to school and retain them.

Many Rivers Microfinance

Many Rivers Microfinance (Many Rivers) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports aspiring business owners with microenterprise development support and access to finance in order to see the potential of people and communities realised.
