In May 1995 the Transurban consortium, led by Transfield Holdings and Obayashi Corporation of Japan, won the $2.2 billion (1995) 30 year Melbourne CityLink (BOOT) concession.
The project, which was completed in 2000, involved the design and construction of 22 kilometres of new freeways and tunnels, and a 30 metre high bridge across the Yarra River.
Groundbreaking Highway speed electronic tolling systems were designed and implemented, setting new bench marks in tolling logistics and patronage management.
Transurban is now listed on the ASX with a market capitalisation of over $5 billion (2009).
