The Transfield and United Utilities (formerly North West Water) joint venture won the Macarthur Water Filtration Plant project at Appina a year after successfully bidding for Australia’s first BOOT water-works at Yan Yean.
The Macarthur Water Filtration Plant on the outskirts of Sydney was designed to filter 265 megalitres of water per day. A feature of the modular design is the capability to double this capacity during the 25-year life of the operation. Construction began in 1994 and the $120 million plant was commissioned in August 1995.
