Anzac Ship Project

Anzac Ship

 

In 1989 Transfield won a $5 billion tender for the construction of eight frigates for the Royal Australian Navy, and a further two for the Royal New Zealand Navy.

This was the largest private contract in Australia’s history and is Transfield’s greatest contractual success.

The project employed 10,300 people in Australia and 1,300 in New Zealand. The first frigate, HMAS Anzac, was launched in September 1994.


Brisbane Airtrain

Brisbane Airtrain

Transfield developed and built the Brisbane Airport Rail Link (BARL), its second rail PFI following Sydney’s Airport Rail Link.

Brisbane Airtrain connects Brisbane Airport’s Domestic and International Terminals to Brisbane city, integrating seamlessly into Queensland Railway's network at Eagle Junction.

Campus Living Villages

Campus Living Vilages

 

Transfield Holdings acquired a 50% share in Tuscan Corporation’s student accommodation business, Campus Living in 2004. At this time, the business had developed approx. 600 beds (at the University of Sydney) together with several prospects in Australia and New Zealand. In 2005, the business was renamed Campus Living Villages (CLV) and Transfield acquired the remaining 50% from Tuscan.

In 2007 Transfield established the CLV Fund (the Fund), managed by Transfield’s wholly owned subsidiary, CLV Funds Management (CLFM) and introduced five of Australia’s major industry superannuation funds as co-investors into the Fund. Further details can be found here.

In 2004 Transfield Holdings bought a 50% share in Charter Hall, a company that undertakes property funds management, development management,property investment banking and property management.

In 2005 with Transfield’s backing Charter Hall assembled a $240million property portfolio, an independent board of directors and listed Charter Hall on the Australian Stock Exchange.

Melbourne CityLink

Melbourne City Link

 

In May 1995 the Transurban consortium, led by Transfield Holdings and Obayashi Corporation of Japan, won the $2.2 billion (1995) 30 year Melbourne CityLink (BOOT) concession. 

The project, which was completed in 2000, involved the design and construction of 22 kilometres of new freeways and tunnels, and a 30 metre high bridge across the Yarra River.

Novatec Solar

Novatec Solar

 

Novatec has successfully designed and commissioned a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) system based on Linear Fresnel technology. Transfield Holdings invested in 2007 and took Novatec from a start-up company to a commercial provider of solar thermal technology.

In 2009 Novatec connected its 1.4MW demonstration plant to the national electricity grid in Puerto Errado Murcia, Spain (PE1) and its Nova-1 product won the Industry Prize at the Hannover Fair. In 2010 construction began on a 30MW plant (PE2), the world’s first utility-scale CSP plant based on Linear Fresnel technology, in the same location. Later that year, Novatec won a contract to build a 9MW coal fuel saver in Liddell, New South Wales.

Perisher

Perisher

 

Perisher is Australia’s largest ski resort with 47 ski lifts and a capacity of over 51,000 skiers lifted per hour. Transfield formed a joint venture with Japanese company Kumagai Gumi in the mid 1980s and led development of several major projects in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains. The consortium was responsible for development and construction of the Blue Cow Ski Resort, the Station Resort at Jindabyne and the Skitube Rack Railway; an underground train with three station terminals, delivering skiers from Thredbo Valley directly into the snow fields.

Sydney Airport Rail Link

Sydney Airport Rail Link

 

Transfield and Bouygues established Airport Link Co. Pty Ltd in 1995 to develop Sydney’s Airport Rail Link. The Rail Link was Australia's first Private Finance Initiative (PFI) rail project, involving expenditure of $762 million.

The project involved construction of a 10km line, built almost entirely underground, and 5 new stations at Green Square, Mascot, Domestic and International Terminals, and North Arncliffe.

The Queensland Transmission and Supply Corporation selected Transfield from a field of 30 bidders to provide the 160 megawatt Townsville Power Station in Queensland’s north. 

Transfield signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement with Queensland Transmission and Supply Corporation.

Today, Transfield Services is a global provider of operations, maintenance and construction services to the resources, energy, industrial, infrastructure, property and defence sectors.

Walsh Bay Redevelopment Project

The Walsh Bay Partnership (WBP) between Transfield and Mirvac was formed in 1997. The NSW Government entrusted WBP with the task of rejuvenating Walsh Bay and breathing new life into the rapidly deteriorating areas of the precinct including three of the five "finger" wharves, their connecting shore sheds, bridges, seven bond stores and several streets and vacant sites within the precinct.

Yan Yean Water Treatment Plant Project

 

Transfield undertook the Yan Yean Water Treatment Plant project in joint venture with United Utilities (formerly North West Water). This Build, Own Operate and Transfer project at the Yan Yean reservoir on the outskirts of Melbourne was Australia's first privately-owned water infrastructure development.
